Ohio State Football Depth Chart 2009 Released
The Ohio State Buckeyes have released their depth chart for the first game of the 2009 season against the Navy Midshipmen with little surprises from what has been the depth chart coming out of camp from scrimmages and practices. The big battles and Left Tackle and Cornerback were reported to have been won by Andy Miller and Andre Amos respectively and that is the way they came out on the first week of the season.
By Steve Patterson
Starting with the Defense, Rob Rose has moved down to defensive tackle while Cameron Heyward is set to play outside on the edge. Orhian Johnson makes it onto the two deep for the first time in his young Ohio State career behind Kurt Coleman and strong safety. And Travis Howard falls in behind Chimdi Chekwa to cover the one backfield position.

I got nothing.
(image via The O-Zone dot Net)
FWIW, I’m not jumping into the cacophonous euphoria over this. The knee-jerk reaction is almost always wrong. I know there’s a certain amount of schadenfreude as a Buckeye fan seeing the holier-than-thou Michigan fans having their sacred institution tainted. After years of them hauling out HWSNBN time after [...]

Buckeyes vs. Midshipman Primer
August 31, 2009 by cbuck215 · Leave a Comment
The first Ohio State game is just 5 days away. Are you waking up to the Ohio State fight song being played by the Ohio State marching band? Is everything you are watching, reading, and listening too about Ohio State Football, Do you already have your Scarlet and Grey outfit laid out to wear Friday? Then you are ready for the Ohio State football season. Wait? You don’t know what to watch for during the Buckeye vs. Midshipman game? Please read these key points and you will be an expert on what to watch and talk about during the first Ohio State game.
Please give a standing ovation and salute to the proud football players representing Navy: These are athletes with different priorities and they should be respected. Playing the schools of the Armed Forces is not as hard as it use to be this doesn’t mean you should treat them like they are any other Big Ten opponent or even worse the Michigan Wolverines. You might not read about their recruits on a scouting website or hear about them holding a news conference. It is a bit Ironic that we have a High School All Star Game called the Army Game, but no one puts on a hat that says I am entering the Army. These are men that have chosen a different route that has a different purpose and we should honor them and proud veterans with a salute and a loud ovation.
The Offense Line: Everyone says they are a nastier group and more physical than last year, now it is the first time they are going to have to live up to all the press clippings and radio talk. I imagine we are going to go very deep into the lines during this first game letting everyone play so if there are any late game sacks I wouldn’t be concerned about them. The Midshipman sees the Triple Option offense in practice they know how physical a team needs to be to create running lanes. They might not be as big or as talented a defensive front we will see all year, but they will require the line to play with discipline. You’ll want to watch the number of penalties and make sure no one gets themselves hurt.
Other Quarterbacks than Terrell Pryor: He is his own highlight film, the single biggest superstar on the field and I say you shouldn’t watch him. Who am I kidding you are going to watch and I expect Terrell to shine for the first quarter and a half that he is on the field for and then to leave the field to the clicking of all the cameras getting their first 2009 glimpse of the do-everything quarterback. Watch Joe Bauserman and how the first and second stringers respond to the fifth year senior that is older and wiser than some of the players that are on either side line. Also watch third string Quaterback Ken Guiton. The 6-3, 180lb scrambling quarterback is going to be in his first Ohio State football game in the horseshoe and though it might be after Ohio State has put up forty points the mini-me version of Pryor might have the opportunity to create a high light or two in the fourth quarter.
The Linebackers: It is not the injuries that have me concerned. It is the injuries that could happen and the amount of tackles these guys are going to have to get that has me concerned. A Triple offense requires assignment football. Every Linebacker has one man in that backfield and they can’t anticipate which direction their man is going to go. It will be a great test of technique all the way down the line. Again we are going deep into lines. Watch for Dorian Bell and Storm Klein two of the 2009 linebacking recruits get their first game time opportunities to get tackles for the Ohio State Buckeyes on their resume.
The wide receivers: The question is who is going to show up? Expect highlight plays from DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzerbacher they have been biting-at-the-bit to get this offense on stage with the new improved passing arm of Terrell Pryor. Their version of the spread offense that made Troy Smith a Heisman winner is going to score. There has to be two more wide receivers on the field with them. The list is an extensive one to choose from, Ray Small, Lamar Thomas, Devon Torrence, Taurian Washington, and the son of Ohio State legend, Chris Carter, Duron Carter a freshman that has been practicing with the starters. This Saturday will be an extremely exciting day for the new names at this position.
The Running backs: When Terrell Pryor is not running there are other players that have to run the ball and they are those guys behind the quarterback called running backs. Boom Herron will be the veteran and should be ready to be the primary back. Brandon Saine is his partner and has been waiting for the opportunity to prove he is not the disappointment some have claimed. His game-changing speed should provide a long touchdown run or two. Jaamal Berry is cleared to play and he knows the only way to get rid of bad press is to run and run fast and run hard. One touchdown for Berry and suddenly the past becomes a thing of the past. Jordan Hall? Why not? He was recruited as a Defensive Back but he was Terrell Pryor’s running mate in High school and maybe they could run an option play for old times’ sake.
If this wasn’t exciting to read maybe you are a Michigan fan and I have scared you before it is even November. The air is cooler and all of the pools are now closed, summer is over. Pre-season football has been on at night and every football show has woken up their broadcasters from their hibernation sleep chambers to start their real jobs. Go buy your buckeye necklaces, and your favorite Buckeye player’s jersey, get ready for the tailgating and The Best Dam Band in The Land. The Ohio State Buckeyes are taking the field behind General Tressel. I stand up and salute you Navy for coming to the Horseshoe it is now time for Buckeye 2009 football season to begin!!
