Delany backs off Buckeyes’ bowl support

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany doesn’t like to look bad.

While there might have been some confusion about Delany’s direct involvement in the process of getting ineligible Ohio State players cleared to participate in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the commissioner didn’t stand in the NCAA’s way. Delany wasn’t spared from the criticism when the players took the field because of an NCAA policy that essentially suspends suspensions for championships and bowl games.

To be fair, Delany also didn’t know Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel had knowledge of the potential violations five months before the 2010 season kicked off.

Delany told reporters Thursday at the BCS meetings in New Orleans that knowing what he knows now, he wouldn’t have supported the Buckeyes players participating in the bowl…
