The brother of former Ohio State guard Brent Darby, who died unexpectedly today at age 30, said Darby had experienced problems from blood clots in his body for more than a year and they ended up taking his life this morning in a Detroit hospital.
The brother, Corwin Jones, said doctors never diagnosed the cause of the clotting.
Darby underwent surgery within the past year to implant a filter to break up the clots before they reached his lungs. He also had surgery to remove a large clot from his leg.
Jones said Darby saw a physician when his prescription for blood-thinning medication expired in August, told the physician he had been feeling well, and was taken off the medication.
Darby went to a Detroit hospital last night complaining of pain in his back and legs and was sent home after seven hours, Jones said.
