Even though this week’s clash between Ohio State (8-0) and Penn State (5-2) won’t have the same national impact it’s had at other points during the rivalry, the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are both on a roll, and it should make for a terrific game.
The Buckeyes aren’t eligible to participate in a bowl game this season, and that disappointment grows with each passing victory. They would be in a promising BCS position if not for the ban. It also means Ohio State has to search elsewhere for motivation.
Penn State deserves a lot of credit as well. Following an offseason full of turmoil and losses in their first two games, it would have been easy for the Nittany Lions to let the season spiral out of control. Instead, they have fought back to win five straight games.
