Corey Smith Will Start for Ohio State Buckeyes in 2013

Corey Smith was a junior college recruit from East Mississippi Community College that Urban Meyer brought in to compete for a starting spot right away. Programs like Ohio State don’t bring in junior college athletes to sit the bench. They bring them in because JC kids are proven, mature players who coaches think can instantly help at a position of need. Corey Smith will be that guy for the Buckeyes in 2013. Last season, Ohio State’s receiving corps had flaws in just about every category. There wasn ’t a game-breaker who could take a slant 70 yards for a touchdown. The position certainly lacked reliability, with all having had trouble catching the ball at some point in the season. Sure, maybe Corey Brown was playing a bit out of position and maybe Devin Smith was just young, but this is a group that needs to get better and Corey Smith can definitely patch some holes.
