Top-10 OT Jones picks Buckeyes

There was not a bigger need than offensive line for Ohio State in 2014, and the Buckeyes landed one of the best in the country.

Jamarco Jones, the No. 8 offensive tackle nationally and No. 66 in the ESPN 300, chose Ohio State at a news conference Thursday afternoon at his Chicago De La Salle high school. He pledged to the Buckeyes over Michigan and Michigan State.

Paul Szczesny, Jones’ trainer at Chicago-based Core 6, was in attendance and confirmed the commitment to ESPN.com.

The Under Armour All-American made three last visits to his finalists the weekend of June 14. He said Wednesday those visits ultimately shaped his final decision, although he has been considered an Ohio State lean for close to a year. Michigan State closed the gap with its final visit, but the Buckeyes’ lead was insurmountable by then.

“Coach [Urban] Meyer is a great coach and has a great track record,” Jones said Wednesday. “He’s won multiple national championships at Florida. [Ohio State] had an undefeated season last year, and I know [offensive line] coach Ed Warinner quite well, and he’s a good coach and I know what he can do for linemen.”
