Extensive renovations to their current home will force the Cincinnati football program to take up residence in a temporary one next season, the school confirmed Monday.
In a press release, UC officials announced that the Bearcats will play their entire 2014 home schedule at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. The school announced in late June that it would be undertaking an $85 million renovation of Nippert Stadium which would increase seating capacity from its current 35,000 to 40,000.
That project will force the temporary move downtown into the stadium named in honor of the NFL coaching legend.
“We’re very thankful to the Bengals and the County for being great neighbors and working with us,” UC athletic director Whit Babcock said. “I was impressed with the game day atmosphere we were able to create at PBS in 2011 and the stadium is a first-class facility. While we will have some logistical issues to deal with in moving an entire season of games to Paul Brown, I know our staff has a great working relationship with the Bengals and I am confident the environment will be the next best thing to Nippert Stadium.”
The Bearcats have played four games at PBS since the stadium opened in 2000, the first coming in 2002 in a 23-19 loss to Ohio State. The Bearcats, 1-3 lifetime in that facility, have also taken on Oklahoma, Louisville and West Virginia at home away from Nippert.
