Ohio State Football: Are the Buckeyes Closing in on 5-Star Curtis Samuel?

Urban Meyer hasn’t landed a commitment for Ohio State’s 2014 recruiting class since Jamarco Jones committed on June 27.

That seven-week dry spell could be coming to an end this weekend.

According to Zach Braziller of The New York Post, 5-star athlete Curtis Samuel will be visiting Columbus this week, and there’s a possibility he’s bringing great news for Meyer and the Buckeyes:

Braziller’s tweet confirms the comments made by Samuel’s high school coach, Danny Landberg, earlier this week. Landberg told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.com that he was hoping to make the trip with Samuel.

The speedy athlete out of Brooklyn N.Y., holds offers from schools such as Alabama, Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, USC and Virginia Tech, but Ohio State and Rutgers have emerged as the leaders, according to the Wiltfong article.

The Buckeyes and the Scarlet Knights are battling for an explosive playmaker who is a threat all over the field. Samuel is coming off a productive junior season, when he rushed for 1,047 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 187 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

It’s his big-play ability that makes him such a coveted prospect.
