Ohio State’s Roby, Smith suspended

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Saturday that cornerback Bradley Roby and running back Rod Smith have been suspended.

Both will miss the season opener against visiting Buffalo on Aug. 31.

Roby was suspended following his July arrest for his role in a bar fight in Bloomington, Ind. Friday, he had a Class A misdemeanor charge of battery reduced to a Class B disorderly conduct.

The Buckeyes were preparing for the season without Roby until a videotape surfaced that shows Roby being pushed by security guards several times before he “lunged” at one of them and then handcuffed, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

“I don’t think it’s done yet,” Meyer said. “The assault or battery, that was the part, there’s a video of it and the story I was told was that there wasn’t (any battery by Roby).

“He’ll be suspended one game just because there was an issue, and I’ll make further determination — I don’t think it’s done.”

Roby is scheduled for a pretrial conference on Aug. 26.
