Kenny Guiton Explodes for 3 First-Quarter TDs in Braxton Miller’s Absence

Ohio State clearly has depth at quarterback. With Heisman hopeful Braxton Miller out with an MCL sprain, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN, fifth-year senior Kenny Guiton played a whale of a first quarter against California on Saturday.

Guiton threw three touchdown passes to help lead the Buckeyes to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter at Memorial Stadium. Playing on the road has been no issue for Guiton and the Buckeyes offense. Guiton completed nine of his first 13 passes.

He picked up where he left off last week. After Miller was injured against San Diego State on Saturday, Guiton came on and threw for 152 yards, with two touchdowns and ran 83 yards for another score.

But before anyone gets carried away and starts to think there could be a quarterback controversy, consider the fact that the Golden Bears aren’t exactly juggernauts on defense.

Cal allowed 37 points per game in the last two games, which was good for 107th in the nation.

While Buckeye Nation will certainly appreciate Guiton’s performance on Saturday, the team’s No. 1 quarterback will be welcomed back when he’s able to return.

Guiton has seen very limited playing time up to this point in his career. In fact, his 208 passing yards midway through the second quarter of Saturday’s game is already his career high. With a little over a half still left to play, and the Golden Bears unlikely to improve defensively, Guiton could easily put up 400 yards of total offense.
