Ohio State Freshman WR James Clark Possibly out for 2013 Season

The 76-0 Ohio State victory over Florida A&M wasn’t carefree after all, as freshman wide receiver James Clark injured his ankle in the blowout win and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

Kyle Rowland of Eleven Warriors broke the news:

Clark was likely playing in garbage minutes with the Buckeyes having such a commanding lead. With the injury taking place within the first month of the season, Clark will be eligible to receive a medical redshirt if he is unable to return to the field.

Clark was a 4-star recruit out of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He had offers from Clemson, Nebraska, Florida and Miami, among others. He was one of many talented recruits that made up one of the best 2013 recruiting classes in the country.

How will this impact Ohio State moving forward?

While it’s never good to see a promising player injured, Ohio State shouldn’t miss a beat with this injury. Clark hasn’t produced a single catch this season, and the Buckeyes offense is already firing on all cylinders. Whether it’s quarterback Braxton Miller or Kenny Guiton, the offense is averaging a scary 52 points per game.

The running game has drastically improved, as a quality stable of runners are averaging an impressive 6.7 yards per carry. The wide receiving corps has also stepped up in the first month of the season with Devin Smith and Corey Brown combining for 32 receptions and seven touchdowns.
