November, 3, 2013 Nov 3 9:00 AM ET WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A closer look at the standouts in No. 4 Ohio State’s 56-0 laugher over Purdue on Saturday afternoon at Ross-Ade Stadium. TE Jeff Heuerman: The junior certainly benefited from the lack of attention Purdue paid to the big, athletic target, and he deserves credit for making the most of his opportunities in turning in the most productive outing for an Ohio State tight end since 1996. Heuerman consistently was able to tack on yardage after his five catches and finished with 116 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the attack in another high-scoring performance.
LB Ryan Shazier: The Buckeyes weren’t exactly keeping it a secret that they wanted to unleash the athletic junior as a blitzer more often, but even if Purdue had worked on a plan to stop him, it had almost no chance when he came up in support of the defensive line. The Big Ten co-leader in tackles for loss coming into the weekend, Shazier added three more to his total, including two sacks, and the Boilermakers were repeatedly left grasping at air as he flashed into the backfield to disrupt their offense.
CB Doran Grant: There was no hanging around this year for the Boilermakers, and the defense provided the only score Ohio State needed as it pitched a shutout. Grant didn’t even give the uptempo offense a chance to lend any support, jumping a route on the second snap of the game and returning it 33 yards for a touchdown that set the tone and sent the Buckeyes on their way to yet another easy Big Ten victory.
