Urban Meyer Admits to Voting Ohio State No. 2 Behind Alabama in Coaches Poll

The college football debate over the last several weeks has been centered on the top two teams in the country.

Is it Alabama or Florida State?

Ask Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and he’ll tell you that the Buckeyes should be thrown into that conversation, according to Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch:

Well, at least somebody believes that to be true. In the AP Poll, BCS rankings and USA Today Coaches Poll, the Buckeyes are the third best team behind Alabama and Florida State. Ask 10 people in a room if those rankings are correct and nine will nod their head. The other must be from Columbus or is related to Meyer in some way.

Hey, but it could always be worse. Dave Christensen could have pegged Wyoming as the top team in the country. That would have really been a train wreck.

In one way this is disturbing. Coaches being allowed to vote for their teams and conferences is weird. Coaches don’t have time to watch college football all week and probably can count on one hand how many games they’ve seen from some of the teams they’re picking in the Top 25. The poll is clearly filled with bias.

On the other hand, what do you want Meyer to say?

The Buckeyes are undefeated and have simply clobbered teams throughout the year. It’s not their fault they play in a poor conference and are stuck playing teams with losing records. Maybe they are the best team in the country.

With the lack of competition in the Big Ten, Meyer knows his team has to play at a higher level…
