Why All the Fuss About Ohio State’s Non-Conference Schedule? (Yahoo Contributor Network)

COMMENTARY | It’s probably best not to throw rocks in glass houses.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what folks who think that theFlorida State Seminoles are more worthy of a shot at the national title than the Ohio State Buckeyes are doing.

Even though OSU has won 21 straight games, the Bucks are still stuck behind an FSU team that is No. 2 in the BCS standings thanks to an October 19 rout of the Clemson Tigers. Though the Noles’ 51-14 win that day was impressive, it came against a Clemson team that has exactly one quality win in 2013 — a 38-35 home victory over the not-exactly-fearsome Georgia Bulldogs on August 31.

When trying to trump up OSU’s unworthiness of a national title shot, FSU sympathizers/Buckeye haters tend to shy away from the conferences the two teams represent — the ACC and the Big Ten. Even though the Big Ten hasn’t been great in 2013, it’s still not at the level of the ACC, which hasn’t had a legitimate national title contender for over a decade now. The fact is, I’ll take the Michigan State Spartans and the Wisconsin Badgers over Clemson and the Miami Hurricanes any day of the week.

Knowing this, the next move by the people who think the Buckeyes are overrated is to attack OSU’s non-conference schedule. A dubious theory at best, it ends up looking completely nonsensical when you break down OSU’s and FSU’s non-conference slates.
