With Tim Tebow’s NFL Prospects Fading, Could He End Up at Ohio State in 2014? (Yahoo Contributor Network)

COMMENTARY | It’s looking more and more like the sun has set on Tim Tebow’s fledgling NFL career. After being cut by the New England Patriots in late-August, Tebow has yet to even get so much as a tryout with any NFL team in 2013, despite the fact that several franchises have had major issues at quarterback. Tebow himself is even preparing for the likelihood that his NFL days could be over, because, according to reports, he is considering the possibility of pursuing a career in broadcasting. Though a career on TV can be lucrative, there’s a team out there that might have some use for him, and would welcome him with open arms. It’s not an NFL team, though — it’s the Ohio State Buckeyes. A graduate assistant position at OSU could get Tebow’s second career in football started, and the Buckeyes would be the perfect fit for him. OSU is coached by Urban Meyer, who was Tebow’s head coach during his college days with the Florida Gators, and Meyer has always held Tebow in very high regard. Meyer would probably be on board with having the most successful signal-caller he’s ever coached around to mentor Ohio State’s quarterbacks. Current OSU quarterback Braxton Miller is having a fine year in what may be his final season with the Buckeyes. There’s been no indication on whether or not Miller will skip his senior season and enter the 2014 NFL draft yet, but, if he does, bringing Tebow in could pay off in spades for OSU down the road. That’s because OSU’s quarterback in 2014 very well could be sophomore Cardale Jones, who is almost a clone of Tebow physically. The highly touted Jones is 6 feet 5 inches and nearly 250 pounds, and could realistically become OSU’s next Heisman Trophy winner. Who better to mentor him than the man who won the Heisman back in 2007? Tebow’s experience in Meyer’s system would give him the ability to pass along a wealth of knowledge to Jones, and the fact that Tebow made it to the NFL after excelling in Meyer’s offense would surely command the respect of the young Buckeye. In my eyes, this would be a great idea for all involved. Imagine watching Meyer and Tebow celebrating on the OSU sideline after Jones perfectly executes the jump pass for a touchdown to put the 2015 College Football Championship Game out of reach — I can, and the thought makes me smile.
