Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer Says BCS Is ‘Flawed System’

As the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to get undercut in the BCS rankings, head coach Urban Meyer has had about enough with the system that determines the two teams that participate in the national championship. He just couldn’t hold his tongue any longer during a conference on Monday, according to Austin Ward of ESPN.

“Without spending much time on it, because it’s not fair to our team for me to spend much time on it, I will say this — I think it’s a flawed system,” Meyer said Monday. “But when you logically think about what the BCS people have done, and which obviously we’re all part of, I think it was great for a while. I think you take an imperfect system and you do the best you can without hosting a playoff.”

You mean great when it benefited you at Florida? Everything was great when Meyer was taking advantage of the system and was able to hoist two crystal footballs in 2006 and 2008. Now that it isn’t working in his favor, he thinks the system is flawed and can’t wait for a playoff? It’s mighty convenient how that works, eh?

All joking aside, Meyer isn’t breaking any news with these comments. Having computers and voters pick the top two teams in the country has always been a flawed way to determine a national champion. Unless players are battling it out and letting the performance on the field do the talking, it doesn’t count. Who cares what number a computer can spit out? We all want to see these teams play one another and settle the score.
