2015 4-Star Cornerback Jamel Dean Commits to Ohio State

Things are going well for Urban Meyer and No. 2 Ohio State, but after Sunday’s big news, the future is looking even brighter.

The Buckeyes secured commitment No. 2 for their 2015 class when Jamel Dean, a 4-star cornerback out of Cocoa, Fla., offered his verbal pledge. Jeremy Birmingham of Eleven Warriors broke the news.

Dean, a 6’1″, 180-pound standout, is rated the 16th-best cornerback and the 179th-best prospect overall by 247Sports’ composite rankings. He had offers from some of the top programs in the country, such as Florida, Miami and Mississippi State.

Dean got comfortable in Columbus, Ohio, though, when he attended Meyer’s Friday Night Lights summer camp last July.

“I like the environment around campus and the coaching staff,” Dean told Eleven Warriors. “They make sure their players will perform at their full potential every single rep, helping them get better for the team’s sake.”

During that summer trip, Dean named Ohio State his favorite. On October 26, three months after making his first visit, he returned to take in the atmosphere of a night game when the Buckeyes hosted Penn State.

According to Ari Wasserman of The Plain Dealer, Dean was blown away.

It was unlike anything I have ever seen. I looked up into the stadium, and it was really big, and there wasn’t one empty seat in the entire place. I never really saw anything like that in my entire life.
