Jamel Dean Commits to Ohio State: Buckeyes Land 2015 4-Star DB

Ohio State added a standout defender to its 2015 recruiting class Sunday. The Buckeyes secured a commitment from 247Sports 4-star cornerback Jamel Dean, providing a building block for Urban Meyer’s future prospect haul.

Dean delivered the news on Twitter, expressing his excitement about creating a verbal pact with the BCS title contender.

The 6’1″, 180-pound playmaker stars at Cocoa High School on the east coast of Florida. He visited Columbus in late October, watching the Buckeyes beat Penn State in emphatic fashion.

The experience was an eye-opener for Dean, according to his conversation with Cleveland.com writer Ari Wasserman.

“It was unlike anything I have ever seen,” Dean told Wasserman. “I looked up into the stadium, and it was really big, and there wasn’t one empty seat in the entire place. I never really saw anything like that in my entire life.”

His offer list is already quite expansive and features Florida, Temple, Mississippi State and Miami. Dean attended a June camp in Gainesville, where he received an offer from the Gators.

Aside from football, Dean is already an accomplished sprinter and long-jumper. He was named the All-Space Coast Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

He is listed as the nation’s No. 16 junior cornerback and Florida’s No. 23 overall 2015 prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings.
