Ohio State Buckeyes in the NFL: Monday Night Football

A few former Buckeyes played in the first Monday Night Football games of the 2014 season. How did they fare on the field?

The New York Giants took on the Detroit Lions in the first Monday Night Football game of the 2014 season, and the Giants lost to Detroit 14-36. Former Buckeye Johnathan Hankins, a defensive tackle for the Giants, had four tackles and one assist in the loss. The Lions’ left guard, Rob Sims, also a former Buckeye, protected Matthew Stafford well as he carved up the Giants through the air, allowing just two hurries on Stafford all night.

The San Diego Chargers also took on the Arizona Cardinals in a late Monday Night Football matchup, and former Buckeyes return ace Ted Ginn, Jr. was in action for the Cardinals. Ginn had 49 return yards on three kick returns, as well as two receptions for 29 total yards in Arizona’s thrilling 17-18 victory. One of Ginn’s receptions was a 25-yard catch.
