Ohio State football: Player’s college choice ended QB days

About four years ago, Jalin Marshall was offered a scholarship by Cincinnati, which wanted him as a quarterback. The offer came from assistant coach Kerry Coombs.

Now, Coombs is the cornerbacks coach and special-teams coordinator at Ohio State. He has been since 2012, when he joined Urban Meyer’s staff. And Marshall, from Middletown, is a redshirt freshman hybrid back at Ohio State, competing for playing time with sophomore Dontre Wilson as the Buckeyes prepare to play the Bearcats on Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Marshall left his quarterbacking days behind when he signed with the Buckeyes, but who knows, he might take a direct snap or two before the season is over. He revealed yesterday that the Buckeyes have a wildcat look in their repertoire.

“We’ve done a little bit of it; we’ve walked through it a lot,” Marshall said after practice. “Hopefully, on Saturday, we can start some of it.”
