Maryland will play its first home game as a member of the Big Ten when Ohio State visits College Park Saturday afternoon. Buckeyes tight end Jeff Heuerman wants to make sure the Terrapins’ home conference debut does not go very well.
“We’re going to go there and we’re going to welcome them to the Big Ten,” Heuerman said per Cleveland.com. “We’re going to go on the road and it’s going to be a big game and we’re going to show them what Big Ten football is and hopefully it’ll come out in our favor.”
Cleveland.com’s Doug Lesmerises said Heuerman’s comments “sounded maybe 65 percent neighborly” and “35 percent like a warning.”
Maryland knocked off Indiana 37-15 on the road in its first Big Ten game over the weekend. The win improved the Terps to 4-1 on the season, putting them at the top of the Big Ten East Division.
Saturday’s game is the first conference matchup of the year for the 3-1 Buckeyes, who are coming off a dominant 50-28 win over Cincinnati. With the added importance of conference play, Heuerman said the Buckeyes will pick up the intensity.
“We’ll show you what’s up,” Heurman said. “They’re saying it’s one of the biggest games in Maryland history. Whatever that means.”
