COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer wanted to see two things from Ohio State’s game against Rutgers: A quick start, and good pass defense against a team that threw it around the yard against Michigan two weeks ago. Check on both. The No. 13 Buckeyes jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the Scarlet Knights, eventually rolling to a 56-17 win on Saturday in Ohio Stadium. Ohio State’s defense held Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova to 192 passing yards. “He’s the most improved quarterback in the country, from a year ago,” Meyer said of Nova. “We went back and watched some film from last year, and that was a much-improved offense.” The Buckeyes (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) made that offense look pedestrian on Saturday.
