Ohio State football: QB J.T. Barrett to be limited in Buckeyes practice this week with MCL sprain

COLUMBUS, Ohio – First, Urban Meyer said after Ohio State’s 31-24 double overtime win over Penn State that quarterback J.T. Barrett’s knee injury was part of the reason the Buckeyes got conservative offensively. Then Barrett, who rushed for two touchdowns in overtime to lift Ohio State, said that the injury wasn’t “anything too crazy.”  We found out Monday that Meyer was the most realistic about it. Barrett suffered a sprained MCL, and though he’ll start vs. Illinois on Saturday night, he’ll be limited in practice this week. Barrett will throw, he just will take it easy on his leg.  “He’s got a sprained knee, MCL, but obviously there’s no surgery or anything,” Meyer said during his Monday morning news conference. “I think he will be limited. “We’re going to see how it goes. He’s probably going to be a guy that we won’t tell him he’s limited, but we’ll make sure he’s limited. It’s not throwing that’s a concern, it’s running.” Ironically, Barrett had his worst passing performance of the year vs. Penn State with only 74 yards, but made plays as a runner to keep the Buckeyes unbeaten in Big Ten play.  On Ohio State’s winning touchdown, Barrett was hit at the Penn State 3 and then drove his way into the end zone. He rushed four times for 32 yards and two touchdowns in the overtime periods.  Meyer didn’t see the final run on game day, but when he reviewed the film of Barrett’s final touchdown run, he was overwhelmed by the effort.  “How many guys could have done that?” Meyer said…
