Ohio State, playing the role of favorite, dominated the series with a 20-4 record from 1975 through 2008 and leads overall, 28-14. But Michigan State is coming off a victory over Ohio State in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis, and enters Saturday’s contest ranked seventh in the Associated Press poll, six positions ahead of Ohio State at No. 13. The last time Michigan State was higher ranked, according to the OSU record book, was in 1999, when the 19th ranked Spartans defeated the 20th ranked Buckeyes, 23-7. Before then, you have to go back to 1966 to find another time when MSU was higher ranked. MSU entered that 1966 game No. 1 in the country and defeated the unranked Buckeyes, 11-8.
