Ohio State football TV rewatch: Did Buckeyes find a new offensive wrinkle against Minnesota?

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Notes and observations from Ohio State’s 31-24 win over Minnesota after watching the TV broadcast. • Important to note that my DVR recording of Saturday’s game did not work, but through the miracle of the internet, I was able to watch a few plays from the Buckeyes’ win. Below are some thoughts on a small sample of the game. • This late in the season, it’s difficult to show something you haven’t done yet. J.T. Barrett’s 86-yard touchdown run in the first quarter came after Barrett faked a pitch to Ezekiel Elliott and took it up the middle for a big gain. We’ve seen plenty of reads and some misdirection, but I don’t think we’ve seen Barrett fake a pitch out wide, then keep it himself and run up the middle. He did it twice on Saturday. First he froze the linebackers and got some good blocking before running for the 86-yard score. On a 38-yard run in the second quarter, Barrett faked a pitch to Jalin Marshall and took it again up the middle. It was the second time the Minnesota linebackers saw that look and still committed to the pitch man. …
