Ohio State basketball F Marc Loving gets aggressive against Campbell: 5 thoughts on Buckeyes’ 91-64 win

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Marc Loving is plenty comfortable. Ohio State’s sophomore forward balked at the idea of his career-high 18 points in the Buckeyes’ 91-64 win over Campbell being a sign that he’s starting to settle in. Loving feels he reached that point long ago. “I wouldn’t say I’m getting more comfortable each game,” Loving said after netting a career high in points while grabbing three rebounds and blocking two shots to help the No. 16 Buckeyes to their fourth straight win. “I’m very comfortable.” Loving certainly looked more aggressive on Wednesday, getting to the free-throw line a game-high nine times on a night when the Buckeyes (4-0) got 15 attempts at the line. Loving wasn’t only aggressive attacking Campbell’s matchup zone, he went to the floor to get loose balls. At one point in the first half, Loving nearly jumped over the Ohio State bench to keep a ball in bounds, sending it up the floor to Shannon Scott who finished with a layup. “We’ve talked to Marc at length about being more aggressive,” Ohio State coach Thad Matta said. “Being more assertive and not taking plays off in terms of being passive. I thought he was pretty aggressive in his approach for 40 minutes tonight.” Wednesday was the second time this season Loving hit a career high in points. The sophomore scored 14 in a season-opening win over UMass-Lowell, eclipsing his previous high of 13 last year against Nebraska.
