WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Ohio State captures 103-49 Big Ten win against Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Indiana women’s basketball team fell to Ohio State on Thursday evening, 103-49. The Hoosiers (11-4, 1-3 Big Ten) were led in scoring with 14 points from freshman Jess Walter, while freshman Amanda Cahill added 13. The Buckeyes (11-5, 3-1 Big Ten) opened the game on a 17-2 run and shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the field in the first half, including 60 percent (6-of-10) from the 3-point line. Sparked by 15-first half points from Kelsey Mitchell and 14 points from Ameryst Alston, Ohio State took a 49-17 lead into the break. Mitchell finished the game just one board short of a double-double at 25 points and nine rebounds, while Alston scored 27 points. Walter knocked down all of her 14 points in the second half as she shot 4 of 7 from downtown in the period. Despite an 8-0 run sparked by a layup and free throw from Cahill, the Hoosiers could not overcome the hot shooting of the Buckeyes as Ohio State shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from beyond the arc and hit 63.1 percent (41 of 65) from the field in the game. Mt. Carmel native Tyra Buss created five assists and collected three rebounds for Indiana.
