Art Briles: Ohio State won final playoff spot in 8-4 vote

The Ohio State Buckeyes were given the No. 4 seed in the inaugural College Football Playoff and surprisingly took down both Alabama and Oregon to win the national championship. According to Briles, his team, which wound up finishing at No. 5 (just outside the playoff field), lost the committee’s final vote, 8-4. Briles also said that his team needs to “dominate” opponents in the future as he believes winning simply isn’t enough anymore.

“We’ve really only been nationally close once, last season, and if my source is correct we fell short of #4 on an 8-4 vote,” Briles said during a radio interview with ESPN 1660 Wednesday, according to David Smoak. “And we didn’t get there so we have to not only win but find way to dominate, that needs to be our next step and we know it’s not easy.”
