‘Hometown heroes’ recognized

A couple of weeks ago, they wore the scarlet and gray of the Ohio State Buckeyes in the National Championship that determined the best college football team in the nation. On Sunday, former Middie football standouts Jalin Marshall and Rashad Frazier returned to their football roots Sunday as a crowd of about 1,200 people who braved a cold, rainy day to celebrate their post-championship with their hometown at Wade E. Miller Gym. Throughout the event, the themes of having dreams and working toward those dreams reoccurred as well as having many friends, family, supporters and former classmates, teachers and coaches share in the day. As both Frazier and Marshall were introduced, they both worked the gym to say hello and greet them as the Middie band struck up the school’s fight song along with “Hang On Sloopy,”several times. Middletown Superintendent Sam Ison noted how humbling it was for both to go around the gym and reconnected with friends. Ison told young people to take note of Marshall and Frazier, saying “they are great role models for kids, the Middletown schools and the community.” Mayor Lawrence Mulligan presented proclamations designating Sunday as Jalin Marshall and Rashad Frazier Homecoming Day. Mulligan called them “outstanding hometown heroes” and that both went from playing at Barnitz Stadium to playing in the National Championship game. Mulligan also lauded their performances on the field, saying that both were instrumental and had significantly contributed to the Buckeyes winning the championship. Frazier played defensive end for the Buckeyes, while Marshall, a red-shirt freshman, was an H-back and punt returner. “It’s a great day to be a Middie,” Frazier told the crowd. “It’s been a long journey and I want to thank everyone for their support.” While Frazier has already graduated from OSU, he said Marshall still has a couple of more championships to win.” “It’s been crazy, seeing everyone,” Marshall said…
