Ohio State’s Michael Bennett goes to Jacksonville Jaguars in 6th round

Even before this year, Michael Bennett didn’t particularly enjoy watching the NFL draft. Today, the experience went from boredom to agony.

So rather than watch player after player selected before he was — even a punter and a Navy long-snapper facing a military commitment — Bennett popped in a Hobbit movie. The defensive tackle watched almost the entire movie before the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the sixth round with the 180th overall pick.

“More than anything, I was confused,” Bennett said of the unexpected wait.

After a so-so start in 2014, he became a key reason that Ohio State won the national championship with a superb closing stretch. Eleven of Bennett’s 14 tackles for losses, including six of his seven sacks, came in the final seven games. Bennett’s character is impeccable. He became a leader as a senior.
