Buckeyes Feel A Draft: Some Thoughts on The NFL 2015 Draft

ShareTweetThe NFL Draft from a few days ago? Several Buckeyes were eligible and some were drafted. Here’s what I think of what went down over the weekend. Actually Drafted Devin Smith, New York Jets, 2nd Round Devin was the first Buckeye drafted, and for good reason. In 2014, the Jets were at or near the bottom of any meaningful passing metric. Devin should provide some receiving talent,  and the Jets need to develop a reliable QB to get the ball to this very reliable WR.  This was a great selection by NY. The AFC East, particularly the Bills, better make sure their secondaries are on the ball, because Devin will be. Jeff Heuerman, Denver Broncos, 3rd Round Jeff has a pretty good opportunity with the Broncos. Anything he can do to help their quarterback, what’s his name, will be a plus. As you see here, as well, the Broncos may be a good fit for Jeff. Doran Grant, Pittsburgh Steelers, 4th Round Doran was selected as part of the Steelers youth and replenishment movement this season. Pittsburgh has had a couple long-standing DB’s retire (Ike Taylor, Troy Polamalu) that needed replacing, and frankly, the Steeler secondary wasn’t that hot. They finished 6th worst in yards allowed per game. Doran, one of three DB’s selected, seems to fit the mold of a smart, athletic, physical defensive back that has been a hallmark in Pittsburgh. Michael Bennett, Jacksonville Jaguars, 6th Round Michael went a couple of rounds lower than I expected, so this means he’a a great value pick for Jacksonville. The Jaguar defense was middling, especially against the run last year, so Bennett’s abilities may pan out for him in Jax. …
