(Image Source: USA TODAY Sports) We take you around the world of college football: — OSU AD Against Expansion In the first ever College Football Playoffs, the Ohio State Buckeyes beat out the TCU Horned Frogs and Baylor Bears out of the Big 12 for the final playoff spot. The underdog Bucks would then go on to upset the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide in the semifinals and the No. 2 Oregon Ducks in the championship game. Not surprisingly, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith believes the current format is just fine and there is no need to expand the playoffs, citing wear and tear. “Could they (play one)? Sure,” Smith said on Tuesday (per the AP). “Would we have had significant injuries? No doubt. We had a nice gap between the Big Ten championship game and the Sugar Bowl. But we still had guys recovering from playing the gauntlet of the regular season. We play the ‘team up north,’ that’s a tough game for us. And we turn around and play the championship game. We have guys recovering after that.”  It’s not that Smith doesn’t have a point, however it’s probably something that’s inevitable, just like scrapping the BCS and going to a playoff system was. You have to wonder what Smith’s take would be had a 12-1 Big Ten Champion Ohio State been shutout out of the playoffs last season. …
