Memphis Tigers basketball team announces 2015-16 non-conference schedule

The Memphis Tigers announced their non-conference basketball schedule for 2015-16, playing 11 of their 13 non-league games at home.The Tigers will start the season off either November 13 or 14 at FedExForum against Southern Miss, a former Conference USA opponent.Memphis continues their tradition of playing tough Big 12 teams early in the season with a home date against Oklahoma on November 17. The Sooners return four starters and a potential All-American in Buddy Hield.The Tigers next will play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational, where they’ll play in two contests. The matchup against Grambling State will be either on November 20 or 21, followed by a November 23 or 24 date against UT Arlington.The Tigers will play a neutral site game in Miami as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational on November 27, against the Ohio State Buckeyes.Memphis gets another home date as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational on December 1, taking on Louisiana Tech, who is currently in the process of finding a new coach. Former Bulldog head man Michael White will start his first year at Florida, where he’ll coach former White Station point guard Chris Chiozza.The U of M plays Southeast Missouri at home on December 5. A week later, the Tigers get Manhattan at FedExForum on December 12. On December 16, Memphis hosts Southern University.As a lead up to the holiday season, the Tigers host Ole Miss on either December 18 or 19. The Rebels made the NCAA Tournament last season, their second trip in three years.Following their game against the Rebels, the Tigers take on IUPUI at home on either December 21 or 22. IUPUI is led by former Memphis assistant coach Jason Gardner.Memphis will play South Carolina on the road, its only true road game, on January 2. The Tigers have a date with NJIT (The New Jersey Institute of Technology), which won 21 games last season, but that game day is yet to be determined.The Tigers finished 18-14 last season, and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.Copyright 2015 WMC Action News 5.
