Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer expects quarterback Braxton Miller will play for the school this fall and has no plans for him to switch positions. “He’s playing for Ohio State this fall,” Meyer told reporters at a news conference Friday. Miller, who was the Big Ten offensive player of the year in 2012 and 2013, missed the 2014 season with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder suffered during preseason camp. Rumors have circulated that Miller would use the graduate transfer option for his final season of eligibility. He graduated this spring from Ohio State. Behind third-string quarterback Cardale Jones, the Buckeyes defeated Oregon 42-20 to win the first College Football Playoff in January. Jones is preparing for a highly anticipated battle with J.T. Barrett and Miller for the starting quarterback job in the fall. After Miller sustained the torn labrum, Barrett led the Buckeyes to a 10-1 record before fracturing his ankle in the Buckeyes’ regular-season finale against Michigan last year. Jones then took over and went 3-0 as a starter, winning the Big Ten Championship Game and the CFP semifinal and title game. Barrett and Miller, still recovering from injuries, were on hand April 18 when the Buckeyes set a college football record for spring-game attendance when 99,391 turned out to watch the Scarlet beat the Gray 17-14 in Ohio Stadium. Jones finished 19 of 42 for 304 yards and two touchdowns.. Meyer said Friday that Miller has been working hard on his rehab and has progressed to throwing up to 35 yards this summer. “He’s in the best shape he’s ever been in his life,” Meyer said. “He’s working his tail off.” Some believe Miller’s NFL future is at receiver or running back. “The objective is to get him healthy,” Meyer said, “and be an Ohio State quarterback.”
