Big Ten recruiting roundup: Ohio State extends offer to Ole Miss commit

Mississippi native Daniel Crowell verbally committed to Ole Miss last August, but that hasn’t stopped Ohio State coach Urban Meyer from trying to woo the class of 2016 wide receiver. Rated a three-star prospect and the 20th best player in the state of Mississippi by Yahoo! Sports, Crowell stood out at The Opening Regional in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon. Monday, Crowell took a visit to the Ohio State’s campus, where Meyer offered him a scholarship, according to 247Sports. Though Crowell told reporters Sunday his commitment to the Rebels is “pretty solid,” the 6-foot-1, 197-pound pass catcher is expected to take another visit to Columbus this summer. And if any Big Ten team has the allure to swipe an SEC commit, it’s probably the reigning champs. The Buckeyes appear set to be an annual title contender under Meyer, and the former Florida coach has had a good track record of producing NFL wide receivers. Buffalo Bills receiver Percy Harvin and Philadelphia Eagles wideout Riley Cooper both played in Meyer’s spread offense with the Gators. Michigan, Michigan State to end battle over Chris Evans this weekend Several outlets reported this weekend that class of 2016 four-star running back Chris Evans will make his college decision this Saturday. And the two favorites in his recruiting battle are bitter in-state rivals. Michigan extended an offer to Evans, an Indianapolis native, this Sunday and 247Sports predicts the 5-foot-11 back will head to Ann Arbor. But Michigan State has also been hot on Evans’ trail — and with good reason. Evans ran for 1,249 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior at Ben Davis High School last season and added 10 receiving touchdowns, according to MLive. 247Sports ranks Evans as the fifth-best all-purpose back in the class.
