Season opener at Houston to be broadcast on ESPN3

COOKEVILLE — Tennessee Tech’s 2015 football season will open in grand fashion with a national — potentially worldwide — viewing audience as the Sept. 5 Golden Eagle opener at the University of Houston will be aired by ESPN3.

Coach Watson Brown’s Golden Eagles will provide the challenge for first-year Houston coach Tom Herman in a 7 p.m. contest inside TDECU Stadium. The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools.

Herman takes over the Cougar helm after serving as offensive coordinator for Ohio State’s NCAA FBS National Championship in 2014. He inherits a Houston team that finished last year with an 8-5 overall record, capping the season with a 35-34 win over Pittsburgh in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Herman was named head coach at the University of Houston on Dec. 16, 2014, just one week after being named the Broyles Award winner, presented to the nation’s top assistant coach. He helped the Buckeyes win the 2015 College Football Championship with third-string quarterback Cardale Jones under center for the Big Ten Championship win over Wisconsin and College Football Playoff wins over Alabama and Oregon.
