This is Connor Cook’s last chance. Shalique Calhoun has only one more chance at a Michigan State ring. Jack Allen will put on his Spartan jersey one last time. They don’t need any more motivation than that, but coming up a yard shy last year is just that: more motivation. Sure, the Cotton Bowl Classic is one they’ll remember and be proud of for years to come, but being a part of the second annual College Football Playoff is something they’ll never forget. The Spartans return key players in Cook, Allen, Calhoun, linebacker Riley Bullough, and wide receivers Deanthony Arnett, AJ Troup and Aaron Burbridge. Last season, the Spartans went 11-2, their only losses coming at Oregon and to Ohio State in East Lansing. This year, the Spartans will have rematches with both in a different venue: They will host Oregon on Sept. 12, and travel to Columbus on Nov. 21.
