Lawrence Edward ‘Larry’ Devlin

MOUNT VERNON — Lawrence “Larry” Edward Devlin, 65, of Mount Vernon, passed away June 20, 2015 at his residence after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born March 15, 1950, to the late Frances and Marie-Jean (Bergeron) Devlin in Winthrop, Mass. At the age of 17, Larry proudly joined the Marine Corps. He had a selfless desire to defend his country and did so as a chef during the Vietnam War era. Lance Corporal Devlin served his country well, embodying all that the marines stood for and evoking the motto “once a marine, always a marine” until the day he died. Larry was an active member of the AMVETS Post 95 in Mount Vernon. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and loved to watch the games on Saturday with his fellow marines. His favorite pastime was spending quality time with his daughter and granddaughter whom meant the world to him. He is survived by his daughter, Noelle Devlin of Mount Vernon; his only granddaughter, Alexis Devlin of Mount Vernon; four brothers, John (Marilyn) Devlin, Paul (Dawn) Devlin, Richard Devlin, and Billy Devlin, all of New York; two sisters, Rose (Klaus) Froehlich of North Carolina, and Patricia (David) Snyder of New York; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends he regarded as family. Larry was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Devlin, and a daughter, Catherine Devlin. Calling hours will be held Thursday, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery, 13492 Sycamore Road, Mount Vernon.
