Recruiting: MSU vs. OSU for 2017 prospect from Ohio?

The 6-foot-5, 297-pound offensive lineman recently attended the Spartans’ Elite Player Camp in East Lansing and received some good news shortly afterward: He had a scholarship offer from Michigan State. Bockhorst now holds offers from MSU, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Cincinnati, Northwestern and Illinois. “The Michigan State visit went very well,” he said. “I went up there with my best friend and quarterback Sean Clifford, a fellow 2017 recruit. Also up there was our tight end Noah Davis, who is committed there, so I felt very comfortable. It was a very well-run camp, and the coaching staff there is outstanding. I respect the entire Michigan State coaching staff greatly. “I was most pleased with the learning that took place at the camp, whether it was from coach Mark Staten or some of the current players, like the Allen brothers.” College teams now are allowed to use current players to help run camps. The fact that Michigan State has All-America interior prospects such as Jack and Brian Allen definitely enhances campers’ experiences. As with any top prospect from Ohio, the Buckeyes also are actively involved with Bockhorst. The Spartans have banged heads with Ohio State for several players the last few years, and while no school is going to beat Ohio State for many of the top players from Ohio, it can make a big difference if you win a few battles. “Being an Ohio kid, there’s not much to dislike about the Buckeyes,” Bockhorst said. “Well-run program with a lot of hard work and pride. Not much has been said about an offer. I was hoping one would come shortly after camp, but out of all my camps, my performance there was the least impressive, so I am not totally shocked an offer did not come…
