Urban Meyer says three Ohio State quarterbacks will be ready for competition

With his team at the zenith of college football, and a number of questions surrounding this year’s team that matches the magnitude of success from a year ago, Urban Meyer is not ready to talk about 2015 quite yet. “My thoughts are, I’m on vacation,” the three-time Division I national championship coach said following the Urban Meyer and Dean Hood Football Camp at SPIRE Institute on July 1. Meyer addressed the upcoming season only briefly, a far cry from last year’s camp where the then two-time champion named specific players and position groups that intrigued him going into the 2014 campaign. What he did mention was that Ohio State’s three-way quarterback competition is close to having all of its competitors at full strength after incumbent starter Braxton Miller (shoulder surgery) and his successor, J.T. Barrett (broken ankle), both went down. “The only thing that’s different is that Braxton is pretty close to full speed. J.T., I’d say, is about 95 percent,” Meyer said. “That was the biggest thing, is get them all healthy and get them ready to go. Then, obviously the competition is going to get really intense in August.” Advertisement Aside from mentioning that the team is yet to find a replacement for New York Jets first-round pick Devin Smith at wide receiver, and name-dropping former Akron St Vincent-St. Mary standout Paris Campbell as an intriguing player, Meyer kept mum on the decisions he will face when his vacation ends in two weeks.
