Former Ohio State running back ‘Beanie’ Wells visits Classic Park

As the saying goes for Ohio State fans, anywhere across the globe you can yell ‘O-H’ and hear an ‘I-O.’ Now that former Buckeye and ex-NFL running back Chris “Beanie” Wells has had the chance to go around, he’s learned the reach of Buckeye nation. “Leaving Columbus, I didn’t understand it,” Wells said. “Until I had the opportunity go out and see, Arizona has the biggest OSU alumni base for us in the country. It’s all over the place.” Most fans who showed up at Classic Park for “Ohio night” and took the opportunity to get Wells’ signature, donned scarlet and gray but also had a collection of Cardinals memorabilia, Wells’ only NFL team. Advertisement “(It) depends on where I’m at,” Wells said about which level people remember him the most. “In Ohio, it’s all about Ohio State. In Arizona, all about Arizona. Whenever I go back there, it’s hard to believe because I didn’t play there that long, four years, I’m still loved by the fans.” Wells is very much in tune with Buckeye nation. The Akron native now works for Fox Sports Ohio part-time on the Bruce Drennan Show, on Campus Insider and co-hosts Buckeye Xtra on 97.1 in Columbus. “I’m glad things have transpired the way they have from the end of the Tressel era to and now getting Urban Meyer in there and won a national championship,” Wells said. Captains ticket sales account executive Tim O’Brien brought Wells and the OSU alumni band to Classic Park. O’Brien also happens to be a proud Buckeye fan. …
