6 Buckeyes Named To Preseason Watchlists For Maxwell Football Club Awards

The Maxwell Football Club has announced the preseason watchlists for the Maxwell and Chuck Bednarik awards with a total of six Buckeyes making the cut.The Maxwell Award is awarded each year to America’s College Player of the Year and has been since 1937. On the list for the Buckeyes were junior RB Ezekiel Elliott, red-shirt sophomore QB J.T. Barrett, red-shirt junior QB Cardale Jones and fifth-year senior QB Braxton Miller. The four athletes represent the most of any school on the preseason list.  Elliott is the nation’s leading returning rusher, Barrett was named the Big Ten quarterback and freshman of the year in 2014, Jones was recently nominated for an ESPY award in the “breakout” player category for his postseason efforts following Barrett’s injury and Miller is the holder of seven school records. Joey Bosa and Joshua Perry were named to the 21st annual Chuck Bednarik award watch list. The Chuck Bednarik award honors the top defensive player of the year in college football. Bosa, who was a finalist for the award in 2014, enters his junior year as one of the best players in the country and a contender once again for all of the major awards in 2015. Last season he became the 27th unanimous All-American in school history and was also named the Big Ten Conference’s defensive player of the year and its defensive lineman of the year. Perry is Ohio State’s leading returning tackler and a second team All-Big Ten selection in 2014. He has started 24 of 39 games in his career and is No. 1 on the team in career (193) and solo tackles (114). …
