Yes, it is [insert award here] watch list season, where it feels and seems like every college football player ever is being “watched” for some sort of award. However, the Maxwell – the poor man’s Heisman, if you will – is an interesting watch list, as it tracks those who are projected to be the best player in the nation. After all, the Maxwell Award is “presented annually to the nation’s top player,” according to the organization that runs the award. What’s interesting on the list though is how dominating one school is: The Ohio State University. The OSU Buckeyes put four players on the list, which is more than any other team in college football. Interestingly enough though, all three of OSU’s quarterbacks were listed on the watchlist, as well as stud running back Ezekiel Elliot. All three QBs are good enough to qualify for the award, and in case you’ve forgotten, here’s why: • Braxton Miller may have missed out on OSU’s championship run because of a shoulder injury, but Miller’s been one of the best quarterbacks in recent Ohio State memory. The senior has thrown for 5,292 yards, with a 59.3 completion percentage and 52 touchdowns in his three playing years at the Horseshoe, while also adding another 3,054 yards on the ground and 32 touchdowns. • J.T. Barrett – who took over for the injured Miller – had a phenomenal year until the injury bug hit him as well. …
