Michigan State Football: many Spartans’ high school alma mater may close

One of the most prestigious and successful football programs in the state could be closing its doors soon. The Farmington Hills School Board is considering closing one of their three high schools. The rumored school most likely to close its doors in the next year is Harrison High School. Due to lower enrollment sizes, the district’s Building and Site Utilization Committee found the community might be better served with only two high schools. The rumored most likely to close its doors in the next year is Harrison High School. Harrison is well known for their football program. The historic program began in 1970 — when the school opened — with Coach John Herrington at the helm, and continues now with him on the sideline. The school has won a record 13 state championships. Harrison also has many notable alum that have gone onto Division 1 college programs as well as the NFL. Current Michigan State wide receiver Aaron Burbridge is a Harrison alum. He graduated in 2012. Burbridge is looking to thrive in his final year at MSU as the go-to receiver after Tony Lippett departed for the NFL. The most recent Hawk to reach the big time is former Michigan tight end and wide receiver Devin Funchess, who won the state championship with the Hawks in 2010. He joined Michigan in 2012 and left after his junior season for the NFL.
