Ohio State grid coach Urban Meyer visits, golfs at Barrington club

Aurora — Slightly more than 100 members and their families — many wearing scarlet and gray — filled the banquet room at Barrington Golf Club on June 30 to have breakfast with Ohio State University’s national championship football coach Urban Meyer. As the Buckeye fight song and alma mater played alternately with “Hang on Sloopy,” Meyer talked to members and guests before taking the podium for a brief, but personal presentation. Meyer was at Barrington via the invitation of owner Monte Ahuja, a graduate of Ohio State’s School of Engineering. After Ahuja’s introduction, Meyer welcomed everyone and asked why so many people were there. “Why aren’t you at work?” Meyer asked. Surprised by the crowd, Meyer said he expected to have breakfast just with Ahuja and a couple of guys in his golfing foursome. Meyer said he’s thrilled to be back in Ohio as the coach of the Buckeyes. Previously, he held coaching stints at Illinois, Colorado, Utah and Florida. He’s coached three teams that have won national championships. Many in the crowd at Barrington raised their hands when Meyer asked who had graduated from Ohio State. …
