Ohio State’s Urban Meyer pays visit to Barrington Golf Club in Aurora

Aurora — A little more than 100 members and their families — many wearing the scarlet and grey colors of the Buckeyes — filled the banquet room at Barrington Golf Club in Aurora to have breakfast with Ohio State University’s national championship head football coach, Urban Meyer. As the Ohio State University fight song and alma mater played alternately with the signature “Hang on Sloopy,” Meyer graciously talked to members and guests before taking the podium for a brief, but personal, presentation. Meyer was at Barrington via the invitation of owner Monte Ahuja, a graduate of the Ohio State University School of Engineering. After Ahuja’s introduction, Meyer welcomed everyone and wanted to know why so many people were there. “Why aren’t you at work?” Meyer joked. Surprised by the crowd, Meyer said he expected to have breakfast with Monte and a couple of guys in his golfing foursome. Thus, the tone was set for a lively talk by Meyer, who admittedly likes to tell stories. Meyer is thrilled to be back in Ohio as the coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Previously, Meyer had coaching stints at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida before returning to Ohio to win his third career national championship (two with the Gators). One of his positions was with Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz — a Kent State University graduate who remains one of Meyer’s good friends. …
