Well, that didn’t take very long. Three years, to be exact. Yes, just three years. That’s how long it took for the great Urban Meyer to turn Ohio State into, essentially, the Alabama of the North. And now the biggest question facing both Ohio State, and the rest of college football, is how long Meyer can keep this up—or perhaps more accurately, how long he can last before his next case of burnout. The Buckeyes’ run to the national title last year was truly remarkable—a feat that matches anything Meyer has achieved in his long and storied career. I mean, it’s easy to forget now, but early last season, the Buckeyes looked to be a mess at times. They lost Braxton Miller before the season even began, struggled to knock off the likes of Navy, and were perceived for a good long while to be the second-best team in their own division. Even as late as December, as Meyer prepared his team for the Big Ten championship game, there were many (and I mean, many) who believed Wisconsin to be the superior team. Of course, we all know what happened next. The Buckeyes crushed the Badgers 59-0, stole a College Football Playoff bid from the Big 12, shocked mighty Alabama in the national semifinal, and then went ahead and physically dominated Oregon, 42-20, to claim their eighth national championship. Heading into the 2015 season, then, it only stands to reason that the Buckeyes are the favorites to win the Big Ten once again and, yes, make a serious run at their ninth national title as well…
