The last week of July marks the first week of fall sports prep. NFL training camps open. Buyers and Tigers (oops, Freudian slip; I meant buyers and sellers) determine their September fate at the trade deadline. And in Chicago, the Big Ten assembles for the official Harbaugh Football Kickoff, where at least one reporter will ask the other coaches how the addition of the new Michigan Messiah has changed their bathroom patterns. It has been a summer for big hopes and big talk. The Big Ten finally finds itself a partner rather than a punchline in the national football discussion. It has the reigning national champion, a top-five program the last two years angling for a legitimate shot at its first national title in 50 years, and a relic dusting off the memories of old ghosts with a dynamic new head coach. The summer has been a fine time for getting a little carried away. Why not take a little vacation from reality? …
