CHICAGO — It wasn’t surprising to hear Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook asked about new Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh at Big Ten media days. Some, however, might not have been prepared to hear Cook speak so glowingly about the rival head coach, as he listed several attributes that many believe the Spartans’ star quarterback brings to the table himself. “I’ve never met him,” Cook said when asked about Harbaugh during a round table interview Thursday afternoon. “I feel like he has a certain presence to him. When he walks into a room, people know he is there. He’s an intense guy, fiery guy, passionate. “He’s successful wherever he goes. He’s had success at San Francisco, he’s been successful at Stanford, and the record shows it,” Cook said. “Just seeing him on TV, the guy loves football. He’s a competitor.” Cook can be fiery and competitive too, as evidenced by his outburst at the 2014 Big Ten media days when asked about the Michigan rivalry, and again later that season after Wolverines linebacker Joe Bolden spiked a tent stake in the Spartan Stadium turf.
