Urban Meyer’s Florida Demons Pay a Visit to Columbus

Perception is everything. To some, Urban Meyer is revered as a Hall of Fame coach. He’s a three-time national champion who’s proven he can win anywhere, regardless of circumstance or obstacle. For others, the Buckeye head coach represents the aspects that trouble college football. Meyer is a leader who views discipline as nothing more than a mere suggestion so long as his team is performing well on the field. After recent actions from four members of Ohio State’s football team, including reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Joey Bosa, it’s hard to ignore the latter opinion of Meyer. Bosa, along with Jalin Marshall, Dontre Wilson and Corey Smith will serve a one-game suspension for policy violations of the athletic department that involved marijuana and/or academics. Though no law enforcement appears to be involved in this incident, it’s a disappointing blow to Meyer’s credibility of a man capable of constructing a trouble-free locker room. With the intimate relationship between crime and scandal and college football this may seem like a microscopic offense. It was a boneheaded decision by a quartet of youngsters who will now have their season delayed by one week. And while this scenario may not be worthy of the electric chair, it will certainly feed the idea that Meyer allows the inmates to run the asylum…
